We will also discuss the Spider-Verse, Spider universe, and as a bonus, I will share some comic book issues of Spider-Man that you can read and become a bigger fanboy or fangirl of Spider-Man.

Introduction

Spider-Man is originally a Marvel comic book superhero character created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko. He first appeared in the anthology comic book Amazing Fantasy #15 (August 1962) in the Silver Age of Comic Books. After the success of Spider-Man, he appeared in many great films, series, video games, and comics.

However, Spiderman is a teenage boy named Peter Benjamin Parker who is raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in Queens, New York. Peter gets his superhuman spider powers and abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. These powers include superhuman strength, speed, durability, agility, reflexes, and detecting danger with his precognitive “spider-sense.”

Peter initially used his power for his own convenience and personal gain, but after the death of Uncle Ben, he came to know that “with great power comes great responsibility.” This character also deals with some adolescent and teenage stuff, which makes teens or children get connected with their favorite character more than before.

After the success of Spiderman, he made many appearances in many films, series, games, and comics. We will discuss everything in this article.

When Spiderman comics were at their peak, makers decided to make a live-action regarding this character, so they launched several films, series, and games around this character.

Marvel sold the rights to Sony Entertainment, and all the films come under the production of Sony and Columbia Pictures.

Some notable Spiderman movies and series are

1. Spiderman (1977)

spiderman movies and series

It is the first live-action film of Spiderman directed by E. W. Swackhamer and starring Nicholas Hammond as Spiderman. In this film, they cover the origin of Spiderman and how he defeats his first villain, ‘Guru.’ You can watch it on YouTube.

2. Spider-Man Strikes Back (1978)

3. Spider-Man: The Dragon’s Challenge (1981)

The last film of this series was directed by Don McDougall, in which the plot revolves around China and the mafia. You can watch it on YouTube, JioHotstar, and Prime Video. Basically, this trilogy is originally a series that is converted to a film trilogy. This series is rated 6.8/10 on IMDb.

4. Spider-Man (1978)

It is a Japanese adaptation of Spiderman: here, the maker represents Spiderman as a Japanese anime character. This film is produced by Toei Company. You can watch it on YouTube, although I am not sure.

This Spiderman is the first attempt to enliven the character and make him a symbol of hope and justice. This film highlights the origin, power, and crime-fighting Spiderman as usual, but audiences did not connect with this due to a lack of VFX, CGI, and direction. These are the films that I know some of you guys have never heard of, and these films are adaptations of a live-action series, but then after a decade, Spiderman truly went into production, and then we got the original Sam Raimi Spiderman trilogy after 25 years, which was stalled due to licensing and financial issues.

5. Spiderman 2002

This is the revolution in the superhero film genre. This film opened a new gate for superhero films. This film was so successful that makers, production companies, and studios started to make new films, launching other superheroes as well.

Anyways, let’s get back to the film Spider-Man, released in 2002, directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire. It has been rated 7.4 on IMDb with a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes. In this initial project, creators focus on the origin of Spiderman: the story of a teenager, Peter Parker, and how he became a fan favorite, Spiderman. The main villain of this film was Norman Osborn, aka the Green Goblin. The film also highlights Aunt May, Harry Osborn (son of Norman and best friend of Peter Parker), and Mary Jane, love interest of Peter Parker. You can watch it on Jio Hotstar.

6. Spiderman 2 (2004)

The sequel to Spider-Man, released in 2004, was again directed by Sam Raimi and starred Tobey Maguire. It has been rated 7.5 on IMDb with a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel shows us the second villain of this trilogy, Dr. Otto Octavius, aka Dr. Octopus. The film also introduces us to the struggle of Peter Parker, balancing both his normal life and the risky superhero life. This film also won an Oscar for its best VFX. You can watch it on Jio Hotstar.

7. Spiderman 3 (2007)

The last film of this trilogy, Spider-Man 3, was released in 2007 by director Sam Raimi and starred Tobey Maguire. It has been rated 6.3 on IMDb with a 63% score on Rotten Tomatoes. In this film, we witness three antagonists: Sandman, Venom, and the New Goblin (Harry Osborn). Sandman is revealed to be the one who killed Uncle Ben, and Venom is an alien from outer space. We also see the dark side of Spiderman—what would happen if Spiderman were evil. In my opinion, this is also a good Spiderman film, but for some reason, critics didn’t like it. You can watch it on Jio Hotstar.

Sony had also planned for Spider-Man 4 and possibly 5 & 6, but due to disagreements between Sony and Raimi, Spider-Man 4 was canceled, and Raimi withdrew from the project.

8. The Amazing Spiderman (2012)

This is the rebooted duology whose first film is The Amazing Spider-Man, released in 2012, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield. It has been rated 6.9 on IMDb with a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is also a marvelous film of Spiderman but did not stand up to fans’ expectations because the benchmark set by the OG trilogy of Spiderman was hard to achieve. Although the film was good, I really enjoyed watching it.

The film showcases the origin of Spiderman and follows the life of Peter Parker, his college, Oscorp, and Harry Osborn, his best friend. In this film series, Peter Parker’s love interest is Gwen Stacy, and the villain is Dr. Curt Connors, aka The Lizard. You can watch it on Netflix and MX Player.

9. The Amazing Spiderman 2 (2014)

The sequel to this rebooted film was also goated; however, the film has a very sad ending for every Spiderman fan. This film was released in 2014, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield. It has been rated 6.6 on IMDb with a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes. This film also revolves around the dual personality of Peter Parker. The film’s main antagonists are Max Dillon, aka Electro, and Harry Osborn, aka The Goblin. Spiderman also investigates his parents’ death. You can watch it on Netflix.

The third installment of this series was announced, but it was canceled due to a deal signed between Marvel and Sony. This deal changed everything. Sony and Marvel Studios were revealed to have had discussions about licensing Spider-Man to appear in the MCU while keeping the film rights with Sony. This is where Spiderman comes into the MCU, and it becomes a memorable moment for Marvel fans. Immediately after this, Spiderman joins the MCU, and his introduction was done in Captain America: Civil War. Afterwards, Spiderman only appears in the MCU. Let’s discuss this:

Well! Who doesn’t know about this film? A grand premiere of Avengers and Thanos—each superhero fan has witnessed it. Here, we experience a grand battle between the Avengers and Thanos’s army: the battle of the Infinity Stones. Spiderman has a vital role in this movie, where he fights with Thanos but gets defeated and vanishes in the form of ash.

This film was released in 2018 and directed by the Russo Brothers. It has been rated 8.4/10 with a score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. You can watch it on Jio Hotstar.

13. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The final showdown of Marvel’s Infinity Saga— I will not tell or discuss anything about this film; well, you know why. So, we are moving onto Spiderman. It has been rated 7.4 on IMDb with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Peter is recruited by Nick Fury and Mysterio to defeat the Elementals while he is on a school trip to Europe. Mysterio is the main villain of this movie, which is revealed later. You can watch it on Jio Hotstar.

15. Spiderman No Way Home (2021)

This is the film that fans were eagerly waiting for. When this film was released, it broke several records because of the nostalgia it gave us. What a film, man! I’m not talking about overall aspects—although there are some loopholes—but overall, if we talk about presentation, nostalgia, battles, and villains, this is so damn good you can’t even imagine. Ask those who had witnessed Spiderman as a kid. This film was released in 2021, directed by Jon Watts and starring Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire. Yes! The whole package in a single frame. It has been rated 8.2 on IMDb with a 71% score on Metacritic.

The film shows us the events after Far From Home, where Spiderman’s identity has been revealed to the whole world. To fix everything and make it as it was before, Spiderman visits Doctor Strange and asks him to make people forget about Spiderman—but the spell goes wrong, and boom, the Sinister Six are in the house, and some other variants of Spiderman are also there, which causes multiverse chaos. You can watch it on Netflix.

These are the films that are originally mainstream films of Spiderman which we have witnessed. Although there are several other movies and short films available, they are not so important or worth watching, so they are not in this list. There are some other animated films and some upcoming projects that we have not mentioned yet. However, I will mention some projects at the end of the article.
